What this site is

The Downbreak publishes explanatory writing about consumer devices — phones, computers, televisions and audio equipment, home appliances and wearables. Using the site means accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, the remedy is simple: do not use the site.

The content is informational, and nothing more

Everything here is general information. It is not professional advice, and it is not a substitute for a manufacturer's documentation, a qualified technician, or the terms of your own warranty.

In particular, and this one matters: do not treat anything here as instructions for a repair you are not qualified to carry out. Mains electricity, pressurised water, refrigerant and lithium cells all injure people. Where a page describes what a fault means, it is describing the fault, not authorising you to open the machine. If in doubt, stop and call somebody whose job it is.

Following anything described here may also void a warranty. Check yours before you act on a page.

Accuracy, and how it decays

This site has no test lab. Pages are written from publicly available information — manufacturer announcements, published documentation, regulatory filings and the reports of people who own the hardware — and they are as accurate as those sources and as the day they were written.

That is a real limit, not a formality. Rollout schedules slip, features get pulled after launch, and a model number means different hardware in different countries. No promise is made that any page is current, complete or applicable to your particular unit. Where a page gives a date, that date is when it was last reviewed.

Advertising and affiliate links

The site carries advertising and may carry affiliate links, including links to Amazon. If you buy something through an affiliate link, the site may earn a commission, at no additional cost to you.

Two commitments about those links. Prices are never quoted on this site, so nothing here can mislead you about what something costs — check the retailer. And a product the site has just advised against does not get an affiliate link to buy it; where that happens, any link goes to an alternative instead.

A commission never buys a favourable conclusion, and products sent to the site are not thereby written about.

Links to other sites

Pages link out to manufacturers, retailers, documentation and other publications. Those sites are not under this site's control, and linking to one is not an endorsement of it, of its content or of its own terms and privacy practices. What happens after you follow a link is between you and them.

Intellectual property

The writing, design and code of this site belong to its operator. Quoting a passage with attribution and a link is welcome; republishing pages wholesale is not. Product names, model names and logos belong to their respective owners and appear here descriptively — their use does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those owners.

No warranty and limitation of liability

The site is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including any implied warranty of accuracy, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. No promise is made that the site will be available, uninterrupted or error-free.

To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of this site or from reliance on anything published here, including damage to a device, loss of data, or money spent on something a page discussed. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case those exclusions do not apply to you.

These terms may change as the site does. The date at the top of this page is when they last did, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised terms.
